JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – March is Women’s History Month, a time to commemorate and celebrate the vital role of women in American history. We invited women within the #IAMIMSC team to tell us a little about themselves and their views on the importance of Women’s History Month.

Meet Whitney Gaither, she’s a contract specialist with the Air Force Installation Contracting Center’s 772nd Enterprise Sourcing Squadron in San Antonio.

Gaither, who has been with the Air Force for eight months, contributes to the Air Force’s lethality and readiness by “seeking to find acquisition innovations in order to execute global engineering solutions and ensure Air Force readiness.”

Here’s more from Gaither:

Why do you feel we need a Women’s History Month?
To remind us to pause and reflect on forgotten contributions by previous women throughout history.

Tell us about a female coworker or friend you admire?
My mom is the person I admire most because of her kindness, unwavering love and giving heart.

Who do you see as a good historic female role model and why?
I see Meghan Markle as a good historic role model for the way she has publicly discussed her battle with mental health. Talking about it in such an open manner helps to end the stigma around mental health struggles.

What would you say to a little girl in elementary school about what she can achieve as an adult?
I would let her know that the world has so much to offer. Many times I put myself in a small box as a child because I wasn’t aware of all the things I could do and be. Knowledge is the best superpower.

If you could have a conversation with your 6-year-old self, what would you tell her?
I would tell her that her mom is always right. Even when you think she is wrong, she has your best interest at heart.
