Gina Stiglbauer, a resource manager budget analyst for the NDR Division and also a Guam native, never lost contact with her family members on the island. Mark Shackley

Mark Shackley, innovation team lead and security force program manager for AFCEC’s NDR Division, was previously stationed at Andersen Air Force Base, and his wife Norma was born and raised in Guam with family still residing there. Since Typhoon Mawar struck Guam, Mark has been coordinating with the recovery team at Andersen to conduct an Integrated Base Defense Security System site survey to identify the funds needed to repair and upgrade the Intrusion Detection System and enhance the protection of resources and facilities. Typhoon Mawar making landfall

Members of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Natural Disaster Recovery Division, who have family in Guam, received photos of the home and tree damage after Typhoon Mawar. Some of the remote communities on the northern end of the island, near the village of Dededo, are still without electricity. Fuel, water and ice are still limited commodities as clean-up efforts continue. Trees are still blocking some driveways, but efforts are underway to help residents remove trees and debris. Typhoon Mawar making landfall

Nearly three months after Typhoon Mawar, clean-up and recovery efforts continue in the communities outside of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. Members of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Natural Disaster Recovery Division with family in Guam received photos of the home and tree damages. Communities close to Andersen AFB have electrical power and have received food and bottled water from military members. Fruit and palm trees that once towered on the property were twisted and uprooted. Trees are still blocking some driveways, but efforts are underway to help residents remove trees and debris. Green Latrine System

The Green Latrine System is a containerized latrine system capable of operating exclusively on solar power. It’s roof-mounted photovoltaic 3.4-kilowatt solar panels and advanced energy storage system can independently operate the system which comes with a sink, a shower and toilet. Waste Oil Boiler (WOB) System

The WOB System processes used oil to provide hot water in remote operating locations. It can generate hot water at a rate of 80 gallons per hour for personal hygiene, cooking, laundry, and larger applications like vehicle wash racks. AFFF SUNDOWN

The Air Force is scheduled to lockout/tagout Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) tanks and systems like the one pictured here from hangar fire suppression systems by early 2023. The lockout/tagout and accompanying disposal of the AFFF tanks is in accordance with a 2020 National Defense Authorization Act provision requiring DoD to phase out AFFF at all military installations by Oct. 1, 2024.
