JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! Meet Clarence “Hank” Walsh, a civil engineering program analyst at the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center’s Detachment 6 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
He manages issues related to civil engineering operations, housing and energy for Air Force Materiel Command installations. He works closely with AFMC, AFIMSC and the Air Force Civil Engineer Center to ensure seamless mission execution.
“I am honored to be part of something that is much bigger than me,” Walsh said. “Being a strong country is dependent on the Department of the Air Force.”
Walsh graduated from Northwest High School in Jackson, Michigan, in 1980 and promptly enlisted in the Air Force, serving until 2009. He was hired as a program analyst at AFMC headquarters shortly after retiring from active duty.
We asked Walsh, who enjoys hiking and golfing in his spare time, to tell us more about himself and the work he does for DAF.
What do you love about your job?
I love that my workload is varied and changes with different issues. I enjoy the challenge of handling a variety of tasks.
When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
What motivates me is knowing that my work is important and crucial to DAF mission success.
Why are you and your team important to the Air Force and Space Force enterprise and your customers?
We help deliver materiel capability to the operational units we support. Our detachment ensures every team member understands their role, value and connection to that important mission.
Describe a project or event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
I contributed to the AFCEC-led Privatized Housing Health-Life-Safety Working Group, collaborating with housing experts across the Air Force to standardize reporting mechanisms. Our effort provided crucial clarity for reporting health-life-safety work orders to the AFMC Top 3. By piloting this new process, we enabled senior leadership to access real-time data, ensuring Airmen had suitable housing so they can focus on their mission.
How does what you do support AFIMSC’s strategic priorities?
Detachment 6 embodies all of the strategic priorities daily by removing administrative bottlenecks, enabling warfighters to focus on the mission.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
As an active-duty member, I was stationed at four of the eight AFMC installations: Edwards AFB, California; Eglin AFB, Florida; Tinker AFB, Oklahoma; and WPAFB.
