JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! Sonya Williams is a knowledge management operations specialist with the Air Force Civil Engineer Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

Her work helps the center on top of important administrative functions like records management, Freedom of Information Act, privacy programs and the organization’s mail room.

“Everything I do revolves around making sure I get the right information to the right people at the right time so they can make informed decisions to affect change and improve the organizations’ information collection and sharing efforts,” Williams said.

Here’s a little more about her and how her work contributes to the lethality and readiness of the Department of the Air Force.

What do you love about your job?
I know I don’t have a sexy spotlight job; however, I love knowing what I do makes a difference at every level of the mission. I also love learning something new every day and training my customers.

When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
Knowing I have a positive impact on my customers’ success is a big motivator … seeing their success.

Why are you and your team important to the Air Force enterprise and your customers?
Each aspect of my job is governed by public law or is a federal program. Our programs enable the compliance of government transparency and the protection of people’s privacy.

Describe a projector event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
We recently implemented a process to conduct privacy scans on the shared drives that will reduce the demand of the scans on our customers.

How does what you do fit in with AFIMSC's strategic priorities?
We routinely scrutinize every aspect of our tasks and are constantly looking for ways to improve the processes.

Is there anything else you’d like to add which might help people understand the importance of what you do for the Air Force?
Records management is seldom anyone’s favorite part of their job because it’s so time consuming.  It’s super important to understand that proper records management improves the Freedom of Information Act and privacy programs.
