JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – Meet Megan Guillen Diaz, spouse of Master Sgt. Luis Guillen Diaz, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Brig, California
Megan is our #IMSCFamily spotlight of the month. She's been around the military since 2010 and values the travel experiences and friendships she’s made from being stationed in so many places.

We asked her to share a little more about her life with the military.

What’s a challenge you and your spouse overcame as a team?
Getting an assignment we did not want … we literally said, “Lord, send us anywhere but here or here,” and sure enough, He sent us to one of those places. We mutually decided to make the most of it, have a good attitude and embrace it for the reasons God put us there.

What’s your best advice for other AFIMSC spouses?
Make the most of where you are … bloom where you’re planted! Fully explore the places the military puts you, don't just sit around at home! Get out and meet people as well, both in the military community and in the general population.

Do you have a mantra that you live by and how does it help?
"Bloom where you're planted." It helps to remember we are put everywhere for a reason and to make the most of it no matter what, even if it's the last place you wanted to go, like us!

What’s something you cherish from your time as a spouse and why?
I treasure firstly all of the memories and friendships throughout my time as a military spouse, but also the many items we have acquired from our moves and travels. My favorite is probably our Turkish bench. They take a Turkish carpet and literally make it into a bench. I hope to pass it on for generations … our rug is actually an antique one from Iran, so it has so much rich story and history that comes along with it and I just love that!
