#IAMIMSC: Master Sgt. Ruben Buñag

Duty title and unit: Client Systems Technician, AFIMSC Detachment 4, Ramstein Air Base, Germany

Primary duty responsibilities: I perform basic level support and maintenance for Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet) systems, mobile phones, and video teleconferencing systems in support of AFIMSC’s 100 personnel serving as the forward presence in the European and African theaters.

What’s the best part of your job?
Knowing that the system support I provide enables the AFIMSC mission and ultimately ensures our warfighting Airmen in the field get the tools, training and support they need to perform their missions.

Why are you and your job important to the Air Force and AFMC?
As a geographically separated unit, it is critical for our team to have constant reach back to our headquarters and our customers at other locations. Working cyber systems is a critical part of everyone’s job in this digital age, especially as we maintain our 100-percent telework posture here at Detachment 4.

What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment?
We recently performed an upgrade of 50 percent of our laptops. Since the upgrade, trouble calls have reduced drastically and some members of the team have even reported increased productivity.

Which AFIMSC priority do you most identify with – or see yourself and your job fitting into – and why?
I mostly identify with LOE 3: Pursue Organizational Excellence. Not only have I made it a priority to provide the most appropriate level of support based on mission and individual needs, but I have also prioritized accurate record keeping and continuity programs to ensure any future generations that may take my place know exactly how to perform their duties and take care of their customers.
