Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski promoted Air Force Materiel Command’s new mission and vision to an audience of Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors during a commander’s call July 23 at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

It was the AFMC commander’s first visit to San Antonio units since taking command June 8.

AFMC announced its new mission and vision July 20, a forerunner for her talk on the importance of one key quality to accomplishing the mission, vision and future of materiel support of Air Force operations.

“We have to be agile,” Pawlikowski said. “We have to be able to respond quickly.”

AFMC’s new mission, “Deliver and support agile war-winning capabilities,” and vision, “Delivering the world’s greatest Air Force ... the most trusted and agile provider of innovative and cost-effective war-winning capabilities,” promote agility, something Pawlikowski said she understood well.

“I know the importance of installation and mission support,” said Pawlikowski. “If AFMC isn’t agile, I don’t see how the Air Force is agile.”

The Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, one of AFMC’s six centers, is headquartered in San Antonio. The newest of AFMC’s centers, AFIMSC is charged with providing war-winning installation and mission support to Air Force commanders worldwide.

The general discussed the future of AFMC support of Air Force operations and how the commitment of Airmen is important for mission success.

“Over the next few months, we’re going to take our mission and vision and build a strategy,” she said. “All of you can help contribute to this mission.”

Pawlikowski also discussed AFMC mission areas and how they’re tied to future Air Force operations before closing with a question-and-answer session.
