Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (Provisional) leaders met here Feb. 12-13 to chart the unit’s course toward Initial Operating Capability and beyond in what is one of the most complex Air Force transformation initiatives since the early ‘90s.

Provisional AFIMSC Commander Maj. Gen. Theresa Carter hosted the center’s primary subordinate unit and detachment leaders for these foundational discussions.

“We had two days of very frank and productive talks to solidify a shared understanding of the AFIMSC enterprise, where we are in our development and the roles PSUs and detachments will play as we activate and begin operations later this spring,” Carter said. “While we’ve made tremendous progress over the last several months, several big milestones remain to be accomplished before the end of this fiscal year. We’re committed to ensuring the center we build is focused on supporting commanders and installations in alignment with long-term Air Force strategic objectives.”

The meeting included mission briefs from AFIMSC PSUs, updates on AFIMSC development, opportunities to leverage common capabilities in the PSUs that could provide enterprise-wide and AF-wide benefits, and operating concepts for AFIMSC detachments.

The group also reviewed the results of the functional area business process reengineering events completed to date. The BPRs will inform leadership regarding the "to be" processes that will centralize under AFIMSC, as well as the manning required for each of those functions.

AFIMSC will move to its permanent headquarters and activate this spring at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. The center will serve as a single intermediate-level headquarters, providing installation and mission support for 77 installations, 10 MAJCOMs and two direct reporting units.
