The Hurlburt Family Support Activities Council is one of many programs offering aid to Air Commandos and their family here at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

The council is a nonprofit program, which provides Airmen and their families with financial aid and support and is primarily supported through donations received from the community according to Tom Snyder, treasurer for the program.

“Anyone can donate to the program,” said Snyder. “We accept donations from anybody ranging from local businesses to individuals like commanders and chiefs.”

The program received its most recent donation of $1,000 on Dec. 4, bringing the total amount of support it has received to more than $5,000 this year.

The money helps the program offer temporary childcare, support movie nights for kids, offer an occasional monetary grant to Airmen and even provide refreshments to spouses during meet and greets.

“I think this is a really extraordinary program for Airmen,” said Erica Nelson, an AFRC volunteer who presented the most recent donation on behalf of the Enterprise Holding Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company that, through its regional subsidiaries, operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands

Nelson first became aware of the program while volunteering through job fairs and was impressed with what she saw.

“It’s fulfilling a need for Airmen that is not being met by offering them various forms of additional support,” she said.
