"Either we evolve, or we disappear."
For Erika Herron, this isn't just a motto; it's the principle that guides her life and work. As the lead accountant for the Air Force Services Center’s cash reconciliation branch, she recently embodied this philosophy through a profound personal transformation.
A year ago, inspired to be a stronger role model for her two daughters, Erika began a weight loss journey that went far beyond diet and exercise. By choosing to step into discomfort day after day, she lost significant weight and regained a powerful sense of self-trust.
“The most meaningful part of the whole transformation has been more internal,” she said. “I realized I can achieve incredible things if I set my mind to it.”
Now training for her first bodybuilding competition, she’s motivated by her daughters’ cheers. One even told her, “I want to be strong like you.”
The discipline forged in her personal life directly translates to her professional role, where she ensures the financial health of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation and lodging programs that serve Airmen, Guardians and their families.
Not coming from a military background, Erika developed a deep respect for the courage of service members. She feels a responsibility to support the men and women who sacrifice for their country.
“These men and women step up every single day to serve their country,” she said. “It takes a lot of bravery and courage.”
She channels that respect into her own commitment to excellence. “The weight loss mindset has flowed into everything else,” Erika said. “I'm more disciplined at home, at work, and in other areas of my life.”
This renewed drive fuels her work on forward-thinking projects like a new e-commerce initiative to modernize on-base services, ensuring she is always growing to better serve the Air Force community.
