JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! This week, we’re highlighting Shenica Trammell, a dedicated member of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Business Information Systems and Mission Support Directorate.
With more than two decades of active-duty service behind her, Trammell now leads a team supporting more than 950 military and civilian Airmen at AFCEC. She also manages civilian development programs for the civil engineer and science and engineering career fields across the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center enterprise.
She took some time to share her mission and what keeps her motivated.
Why did you join civil service?
Having dedicated over 22 years to active-duty service in the Air Force, I sought to continue contributing to the nation in a meaningful way. Transitioning to a federal civilian employee position allows me to leverage my experience and uphold my commitment to service before self in a new capacity.
Why do you serve and what keeps you serving?
Service gives me a profound sense of purpose, allowing me to contribute to a mission that transcends individual goals. It is the opportunity to be a part of something larger while making a meaningful impact on others.
What do you love about your job?
What I find most rewarding about my role is the opportunity to contribute to the professional growth and success of my colleagues. Whether it's supporting supervisors in making strategic hiring decisions, ensuring deserving individuals are recognized for their achievements, or facilitating access to developmental opportunities, I am motivated by the positive impact I can have on their careers. Witnessing their success is a source of great satisfaction and a driving force in my work.
When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
My primary motivation stems from the understanding that my contributions have a meaningful impact that extends beyond the individual employee, positively impacting their families and ultimately contributing to the strength and resilience of our nation.
Why are you and your team important to the Department of the Air Force?
My team and I are critical to the Air Force and Space Force enterprise. Our work extends beyond the individual, fostering a supportive environment that strengthens families and contributes to the overall resilience of the force. This, in turn, enhances mission readiness and ultimately strengthens our national security posture. We ensure our customers are well-supported and equipped to execute their duties effectively.
Describe a project or event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
My team has been heavily involved in assisting individuals navigating career transitions, both into and out of the civilian workforce, due to the impact of the hiring freeze. The opportunity to provide guidance and support, whether helping individuals secure civilian employment or assisting them in their transition out of the workforce, has been particularly rewarding and provided a strong sense of accomplishment for our team.
How does what you do support AFIMSC’s strategic priorities?
I directly support AFIMSC's strategic priorities by championing civilian workforce professional growth and development. I ensure our personnel actively engage with various Department of the Air Force civilian development opportunities, fostering a high-performing and highly skilled team prepared to meet evolving mission demands.
I power the world’s greatest Air Force by…
… driving efficiencies in assigned programs and processes within my purview, directly contributing to the well-being and mission readiness of the Airmen, Guardians and families assigned to the Air Force Civil Engineer Center.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Spending time with family.
