JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! This week we highlight Jerrel ‘Jay’ Scriven, executive support specialist with the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Commander’s Action Group.

Scriven, a retired Air Force force support officer, took some time to tell us about his unique contributions to the mission and some fun facts about himself.

Why did you join the Air Force civilian workforce?

After retiring from active duty, I still had more to give and wanted to do so with the greatest Air Force on the planet.

When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?

Supporting the leadership and their vision on how to move AFIMSC forward and keeping it as streamlined as possible.

Why are you and your team important to the Department of the Air Force?

As you can imagine, life at headquarters gets quite hectic with multiple moving pieces and collaboration across multiple internal and external partners. We bring all that information together to prepare our executive leadership to maximize their decision-making space.

What do you love about your job?

I love seeing how it all comes together, the big picture. During my active-duty career I didn’t always understand the why behind our work. I see and understand the big picture now, and I love it.

Describe a project/event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:

Our most recent event was planning for the in-brief of our new commander and command chief. It will allow our leaders to give an initial stage setter to the current challenges of the environment in which AFIMSC operates.

How does what you do support the warfighter and DAF installations?

The CAG plays a unique role in ensuring that any directive communications and follow-on actions directed by leadership are successfully carried out to support Airmen, Guardians and families.

I power the world’s greatest Air Force by…

streamlining operations and ensuring the commander's vision is effectively implemented across the organization.

Fun facts:

I graduated high school in Okinawa, Japan. I am an amateur sumo wrestler
