JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! This week, we highlight Mike Fuller, civil engineer staff officer for AFIMSC’s Detachment 5, Air Force District of Washington.
When he isn’t swimming, reading or spending time with his family, Fuller is a valuable team member for AFIMSC and dependable staff officer for Detachment 5 leadership.
We asked Fuller about the mission and his own support of Detachment 5.
Briefly tell us why you joined the Air Force
I retired from the Air Force military after 21 years and was looking for a way to contribute after a short break.
When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
My team and the units that I support.
Why are you and your team important to the Department of the Air Force?
It is difficult for centralized subject matter experts to be aware of issues on individual installations. Likewise, it is difficult for installations to be aware of all the support available from the centralized organizations. The Air Force needs teams that can represent multiple installations’ most important issues, while remaining aware of centralized capabilities. We are one of those teams.
Describe a project/event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
Requesting and receiving emergency centralized funding for the treatment of contaminated water at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
How does what you do support the warfighter and DAF installations?
The more issues I help an installation overcome, the easier it is for them to focus on their war-time mission. The support forces on base also need to deploy in support of Combatant Commanders, so we need to ensure the base will retain critical services when that happens.
I power the world’s greatest Air Force by…
… enabling mission support resources for our bases and those who provide defense of the National Capital Region.
