JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! This week, we highlight Jordan Mendoza, management and program analyst, Policy and Installation Support for Air Force Services Center.
"I'd like to think I am carrying a part of my grandfather’s legacy with me," said Mendoza. “He served active duty; I’m serving but in a different fashion.”
We asked Mendoza, who is from the San Antonio area and graduated from Samuel Clemens High School, to tell more about his work with AFSVC and how he and his team support the warfighter.
Briefly tell us why you joined the Air Force
I desire and strive to help people where I can and found that becoming a civil servant was the best way to do just that. Being a federal employee for the Air Force allows me to not only truly see the fruits of my labor, but I get to help people each and every day which brings me great joy.
When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
My job never truly has a dull moment and working around many programs and human resources-related tasks, there are always ways to improve the process and find ways to not be stagnant in the way we do things. This brings me motivation to come in each day and see how we can tackle new and challenging problems.
Why are you and your team important to the Department of the Air Force?
Our team provides many resources and assistance with directives, guides, instructions, and even plays a critical role in the recruitment efforts and sustainment of our NAF workforce. Given the uncertainty of recent times, we have had to be extremely adaptable and transparent as we work through this new norm to ensure that our NAF workforce is still sustainable and supported, which has been exceedingly challenging but doable with the team that I am on.
Describe a project/event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
I have felt more accomplished and established in the role I am in as I undertake and assist in higher critical thinking tasks and problems. When I first started, it was challenging me for to even learn the acronyms, but now I am regularly helping my boss out with higher tasks and even having discussions or expanding my role as I have come a long way in learning about the Air Force.
How does what you do support the warfighter and DAF installations?
When it comes to our strategic priorities, I mainly focus on assisting our NAF employees and more specifically our childcare employees. Without programs like Employee Transfer Assistance Program, many employees might face uncertainty as they move to different installations which can cause heighten stress for Airmen and their families alike. By taking care of the families, like our military spouses, it allows our Airmen to focus on their duties rather than stressing over uncertainties.
I power the world’s greatest Air Force by…
… sustaining a robust and high-quality NAF workforce.
