JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! Meet Staff Sgt. Michael Li, noncommissioned officer for Medical Operations, 570th Combat Training Squadron at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Li and his team provide medical care and services for security forces Airmen who are training at the Desert Defender Ground Combat Readiness Training Center. He conducts rapid medical assessments for patients at the clinic’s aid station and provides the necessary treatment for Airmen in the training field when needed.
“I power the world’s greatest Air Force by providing top-notch medical care to Airmen, Guardians and their families, ensuring they are medically fit for the Air Force strategic missions,” he said.
We asked Li, born and raised in China, to tell us more about himself and the work he does for DAF.
What do you love about your job?
I’m a people person and believe that asking for help brings us closer. I love helping my patients get what they need.
When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
Every day is different and I’m constantly learning new medical information.
Why are you and your team important to the Department of the Air Force enterprise and your customers?
As medics at the Desert Defender clinic, we are the sole medical support for all Airmen undergoing training. They rely entirely on our team.
Describe a project or event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
We’ve been working to certify more combat lifesavers to increase our training range coverage capabilities.
Why do you serve and what keeps you serving?
I serve to ensure my family has a safe place to live and enough food on the table.
How does what you do support AFIMSC’s strategic priorities?
As a medic in a pre-deployment setting, my role directly contributes to these priorities by ensuring the health and readiness of our personnel.
