JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND – Mission Monday is here! This week, we highlight Kyla Smith, a contract specialist for the 773rd Enterprise Sourcing Squadron, Texas native and mission-focused professional.

When she’s not spending time with her family, working out or traveling – she’s supplementing the lethality and readiness of our Airmen and Guardians!

Briefly tell us why you joined civil service?

I joined the Air Force as a contracting specialist to serve my country, be part of a mission greater than myself, and gain access to exceptional training and career development opportunities that would help me grow both personally and professionally.

What do you love about your job?

What I love most about my job is the teamwork and the continuous learning opportunities I have had. Collaborating with my team to always find solutions for the government and the support we have for each other makes the work truly rewarding.

When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?

My passion for learning drives me to continually expand my knowledge and skills, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally. At the same time, my strong commitment to my team's success keeps me motivated every day.

Why are you and your team important to the Department of the Air Force mission?

My team and I are important because of the customers we serve, and the mission we support. Our duty is to protect public funds, make sure the Government receives high-quality services, and ensure contracts are awarded in a fair and transparent manner.

Describe a project or event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:

I was a part of the ‘Executive Order Team’ which accelerated the modification of contract clauses, focusing on the removal of designated Federal Acquisition Regulation clauses and facilitating the effective integration of Executive Order 14173. We successfully executed the modification in under half the anticipated timeframe, ensuring prompt compliance with revised regulations, and delivering clear, concise communication to both the mission partner and contractor.

How does what you do support AFIMSC’s strategic priorities?

We increase lethality and readiness by prioritizing strategic sourcing and contracting, ensuring that our mission partners receive the best possible support. Our work is dedicated to ensuring warfighters have the essential equipment, dependable services, and comprehensive support they need to maintain readiness.
