JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – The Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Small Business team recently earned top honors from the Department of the Air Force for their excellence in supporting small businesses.
The team received the Department of the Air Force Small Business Program Director’s Award, an award recognizing their significant actions and performance in awarding DAF small business contracts and significantly contributing to mission readiness.
“Small business programs enhance the Air Force and Space Force missions by streamlining the procurement process so products and services Airmen and Guardians need can get there faster,” said Gregory Santiago, AFIMSC Small Business Programs director.
The AFIMSC Small Business team reviews all requirement packages from the Air Force Installation Contracting Center, an AFIMSC primary subordinate unit, to ensure small business opportunities are competitive. In fiscal year 2024, AFICC obligated over $5 billion, including a record $1 billion awarded to small businesses. These awards helped units swiftly procure the products and services necessary to meet mission needs.
“We are the small business conduit for contracting offices ... educating contracting professionals across the enterprise so we can maximize our contracting opportunities with small business,” said Naomi Alvarado, AFIMSC Small Business Programs Joint Base San Antonio Operating Location director.
Santiago also earned the Air Force Outstanding Small Business Director Award.
“Both of these awards represent an enterprise-wide commitment in pursuit of small business solutions to meet mission needs,” Santiago said. “My team and I take pride in doing our part to streamline the procurement process so our Airmen and Guardians receive products and services at a pace suitable for a warfighter.”
