JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas - Chantel Saunders finds fulfillment in helping others and making a positive impact. Her dedication to serving others shines brightly in both her professional life and within her community.
"As long as I can remember, I have always been a natural giver,” she said.
While she excels as the Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Program manager at AFIMSC Detachment 8 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, it's her volunteer work that truly sets her apart. Whether she's collecting prom dresses for underprivileged teens, serving meals at the Peninsula Food Bank, delivering food through Meals on Wheels, or spearheading fundraising efforts, she tackles every opportunity to give back with the same passion and dedication she brings to her Air Force career.
“Volunteering allows me to contribute to something greater than myself, fostering resilience, unity and hope in those I serve,” Chantel said.
Her commitment to service earned her recognition from U.S. Senator Mark Warner for "exemplary leadership and community service." The mayor of Williamsburg also recognized her outstanding volunteerism by proclaiming Oct. 12, 2024, as Chantel Saunders Day.
"It was truly an honor," she said, “but for me, the recognition represents more than just personal achievement. It was a team effort fueled by passion, service and a shared commitment to giving back.”
At JBLE, Chantel's commitment to service translates into ensuring the safety and security of Airmen and their families. Her contributions to Air Combat Command include overseeing the mission assurance program and mitigating vulnerabilities across 12 bases. As the command’s force protection liaison, she facilitates communication between federal, state and local agencies and recently identified a critical deficiency in local K9 standard operating procedures that led to a complete overhaul.
"One of the best aspects of my job is knowing that my work directly contributes to national security and the safety of personnel and assets," she said.
