JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – Meet Ka’Shon Lewis, spouse of Master Sgt. Nakenya Lewis, security forces major command functional manager in the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center’s Expeditionary Support and Innovation Directorate. Ka'Shon is our February spouse of the month.
He’s been around the military most of his life, first as a family member with his now retired Air Force mom, then as an active-duty Sailor in the Navy and now as a dependent. We asked Ka’Shon to tell us a little more about his time as an Air Force spouse.

Air Force Ball 2019 … was my first Military Ball experience.

Watching my wife grow as a senior noncommissioned officer and see the joy she gets from taking care of her troops.
What’s a challenge you and your spouse overcame as a team?
Receiving orders to Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, when she was less than a year from retirement. That was a hard time but we got thru it and are better for it after getting orders back to San Antonio two years later.
What your best advice for other AFIMSC spouses?
Simply to continue to support your spouse and push them to do as many things possible while assigned here … meaning outside education, volunteer opportunities things of that nature.
Do you have a mantra that you live by and how does it help?
Our Mantra is simply … “we’re a team” … there’s nothing that we don’t do together or at least discuss and this helps us get through each day one at a time.
What’s something you cherish from your time as a spouse and why?
Watching my wife excel at her job and seeing the joy she gets from still being here making a difference 21 years later.
