#IAMIMSC: Master Sgt. Andrew Carr
Duty title and unit: Pest Management Force Development Manager, Air Force Civil Engineer Center Detachment 1, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida
Primary duty responsibilities: I oversee and direct training and development programs for all total force pest management personnel. These programs include apprentice training, career development courses and advanced training courses. I am also the AFCEC additional duty first sergeant. This role allows me to support my commander and all AFCEC Airmen.
What’s the best part of your job?
Working with and assisting members of my career field and the rest of the civil engineer family. I enjoy being the focal point for my Air Force specialty code and helping in whatever way I can to ensure our Airmen are taken care of.
Why are you and your job important to the Air Force and AFMC?
I, and the other members of the force development team, provide our Airmen a guideline for their professional development. We ensure they have the training and equipment they need to complete their mission.
What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment?
I recently coordinated with the Air Force Manpower Analysis Agency on the first pest management manpower study in 10 years. The results of this study will reallocate and redistribute 330 pest management authorizations across the globe. This will ensure manning at our installations is provided in correlation to mission success.
Any claims to fame?
Nothing too big. I just like to be known as someone who can be relied upon to get the job done and support anyone who needs it.
Do you follow any mantra?
It sounds simple, but the best advice I ever received was “just show up.” I believe that just being where you are when you’re supposed to be is one of the most important and overlooked things you can do. You might not know what you’re walking into, but you have to have the confidence you’ll work through it.
Which AFIMSC value do you identify with the most and why?
Responsiveness. Responsiveness, in my opinion, is paramount to ensuring timely and effective communication to all members of our team and our customers. There are a lot of moving pieces and ever-changing requirements that will get lost in the shuffle without prompt communication.
