FORT BLISS, Texas – The men and women of the Air Force Security Forces Center’s Desert Defender Ground Combat Training Center organized a series of virtual events recently to celebrate National Police Week 2020.
The team kicked off the week with a walk/run/ruck, an event normally held during a 24-hour period toward the end of the recognition week. Because of the pandemic, participants were encouraged to do what they could, when they could throughout the week.
The total mileage for Air Force and Army participants for the walk/run/ruck was 540 miles.
The DD team honored those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice with individual candlelight vigils May 14.
They also conducted a Final Retreat May 15 -- Peace Officers Memorial Day -- that was special to many. Desert Defender also invited the Fort Bliss Army military police and the El Paso Police Department to take part in the tribute.
