AFIMSC budget analyst connects with Facebook Live viewers
JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas — As a budget analyst at the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, Tech. Sgt. Pete Wells champions for funding to support requirements at two major commands.
During a recent Air Force Recruiting Service social media event, Wells advocated for his career field and may have inspired viewers to become future Air Force budget analysts.
Wells shared stories about his home station and deployment experiences and answered questions about the finance career field during a one-hour Facebook live event, March 28.
“While I have been on Facebook, I had never been on it live,” said Wells, who described it as scary, interesting, and a cool experience.
The event took place at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland’s Finance Office where Wells took viewers on a tour of the customer service lobby and described some of the different sections a person working in finance might be assigned. He also shared personal career experiences.
“I told them a career in finance has its challenges and rewards, and you will get out of it what you put into it,” he said. “And I also told them it’s an important career in the Air Force. The mission can’t happen without it.”
Wells is one of several AFIMSC budget analysts who review requirements from MAJCOMs they are assigned and ensure data from funding drills are accurate. Working with Air Force Space Command and Air Force Global Strike Command, Wells manages nearly half a billion in funding annually to ensure units on those installations can accomplish the mission.
“I have an interesting job,” he said. “It’s fascinating at this level seeing how requirements are prioritized and funded and how fallout funding is dispersed.”
Wells closed the live event with a personal message about a career in the Air Force.
“The Air Force isn’t easy, but it’s the greatest experience I’ve ever had,” he said. “I’ve gotten to travel the world, meet my wife, go to college, and it’s given me a lot of opportunities for after retirement.”
