Air Force Finance Workshop Offers Training for Technicians

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas --  Financial customer service technicians from around the Air Force will visit San Antonio in late January for three days of training designed to enhance their skills and abilities to meet issues and challenges they face at base level finance offices.

Hosted by the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC) in collaboration with the Air Force Accounting and Finance Office (AFAFO), the 2018 Financial Services Air Force Workshop features experts from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), AFAFO, Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) and Citibank who will provide training and updates on issues, processes, and policies relevant to financial customer service technicians. The event is scheduled for Jan. 29-Feb. 2 at the Hilton San Antonio Airport Hotel with travel days on Jan. 29 and Feb. 2.

Financial services support to military and civilian Airmen is one of the key transfer capabilities that transitioned from major commands to AFIMSC as part of the mission support transformation in 2015. Consistent feedback from the installations has indicated a need for additional skills enhancement and training to help financial service technicians maintain top effectiveness and efficiency as they provide front line support to our military and civilian Airmen and families, said Rick Baltes, AFIMSC Finance Support Chief.

“This is all about continuously developing our Airmen and keeping their skills sharp,” Baltes said. “There is truly no formal training for these technicians post technical school. Most follow-on training is conducted on-the-job at their units when, and if, time permits. We hope this workshop will enhance Airmen’s knowledge and skills and be an event we can build on in the future.”

Senior leaders will provide opening remarks each day followed by break-out sessions specializing on specific finance customer service issues, including military and civilian pay, banking, travel pay, and disbursement, among other topics.
