Kathleen M. Day is the Director of Staff, Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC), Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. In this role, she oversees daily staff operations for a center encompassing nearly 4,000 personnel at more than 140 locations worldwide. She supports the Commander’s leadership of an intermediate-level headquarters responsible for providing installation and mission support capabilities to 83 Air Force and Space Force installations, nine Air Force major commands, and two direct reporting units with an annual budget of $10 billion. The center’s cross-functional team integrates civil engineering, operational acquisition, security forces, Airmen and family services, base communications, chaplain, financial management, logistics readiness, and public affairs programs across 10 detachments and four primary subordinate units.
Ms. Day began her Air Force career when she enlisted as a finance Airman in November 1995. After serving one active-duty term, she transitioned to the Air Force Reserve to pursue a civilian career. Starting as a financial management intern in 2000, she advanced through positions of progressively greater scope and responsibility. She has 30 years of resource management experience in both civilian and military roles at installation, major command, joint, and air staff levels, specializing in annual appropriations, services acquisition, manpower, personnel, and administrative programs. Prior to her current assignment, she served as Director of Staff in the Plans, Programs and Requirements Directorate at Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.
