JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – National Police Week, May 15-21, is a solemn occasion celebrated to honor the service and sacrifice of security and law enforcement officers, including Defenders who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

As the largest career field in the Air Force, it’s the job of security forces to protect, defend and fight. They are responsible for missile security, defense of air bases around the globe, law enforcement on those bases, combat arms and the handling of military working dogs. This week, AFIMSC is recognizing several teammates across the enterprise who support the Air Force security forces’ mission.

Meet Master Sgt. Jeremy Smith, a major command functional manager at headquarters AFIMSC, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. The 15-year veteran is a mission readiness scheduler for more than 24,000 Defenders worldwide.

We asked him to tell us a little about himself and his chosen career in the Air Force.

What do you enjoy most about being an Air Force security forces member?
I enjoy being able to be anywhere in the world while providing security for our fighting force.

How do you contribute to the lethality and readiness of the Air Force?
By ensuring that our field units have the properly trained security forces personnel needed to get the mission done.

What has been your favorite, most successful or most rewarding project in your career with the Air Force, and why?
I’d have to say it’s being stationed at AFIMSC. Having a direct impact on the entire security forces enterprise is very rewarding. I can’t wait to take what I’ve learned here and apply it to my next job.

What motivates and inspires you the most?
My family is and will always be my motivation and inspiration.  They support me in everything I do; I cannot thank them enough for that.
