(Editor's Note: National Police Week is May 9 -15. The week is set aside each year to honor all law enforcement officers – military and civilian – who have given their lives for our nation and their communities. In addition to honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, we wanted to use this month to recognize the work of security forces members within the Air Force Security Forces Center, Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center headquarters and our detachments. Like Defenders who have gone before, they are paving the way for the next generation because of the work they are doing for installations to include funding, training and equipment.)

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- Meet Rebecca Losee, antiterrorism program manager, Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Detachment 7, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas.

We asked her to tell us a little bit about herself and how she supports the Air Force Defenders mission.

What are your main responsibilities?
I serve as the focal point for Air Education and Training Command installations’ antiterrorism program execution. I prioritize and recommend resourcing strategies for the correction and mitigation of antiterrorism vulnerabilities on AETC installations, and I evaluate command installation practices and activities to ensure compliance with directives and integration with other security related programs.

What is the best thing about your job?
Evaluating and assisting installation personnel on their antiterrorism programs.

As a child, what job did you want to have when you grew up?
I always wanted to be in law enforcement and always wanted to join the military. I was fortunate enough to be able to do both.

What made you pursue law enforcement as a career?
There isn’t a specific reason for my choice of careers; it is just something I always wanted to do.

What is your favorite part about being an Air Force security forces member?
The culture and the people are why I enjoy security forces and why I came back as a civilian after retirement. I’ve worked with some great folks and have had some awesome experiences.

Why is your job important to the Air Force mission?
Because our focus is on ensuring that critical assets and personnel are protected to the greatest extent possible. The loss of a critical system or personnel could result in mission failure at many levels.

What advice do you have for someone new to the SF career field?
Don’t fall into the negativity. Any career is what you make of it, and security forces can provide some great opportunities.

What or who motivates and inspires you the most?
My family has always been my motivation to work hard and do the best I can.
