#IAMIMSC: Aaron Gagnon

Duty title and unit: Installation and Mission Support Vendor and Mission Readiness Training Program Manager, AFIMSC Expeditionary Support Directorate, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

Primary duty responsibilities: I am currently in charge of the expeditionary support division’s pilot vendor training program and part of the Civil Engineer Mission Readiness Training team ensuring the Air Force’s 24,000 civil engineers are mission ready, whether in-garrison or deployed. In coordination with the unit training managers within every civil engineer unit, we schedule approximately 2,700 members annually.

What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the meaningful interaction with my training team, the units and the positive outcomes I get to see as a result.

What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment?
The Civil Engineer Training Team recently went through a continuous process improvement where we streamlined our training processes and web-enabled training course registrations. This development empowered units to select courses and dates that fit their schedules and eliminated unnecessary and burdensome email traffic. In addition, our division benchmarked this improvement as a best practice and implemented it as a standardized training system across all Installation and Mission Support functional communities.

Do you have any claims to fame?
Being a member of the team to first centralize Air Force fuels functional management from the major commands into one consolidated AFIMSC cell.

Do you follow any mantra?
If you are going to do something, do it right the first time.

Which AFIMSC value do you identify with the most and why?
Innovation. In conjunction with our continuous process improvement efforts to standardize our division’s training processes, we are leveraging robotic process automation to help improve overall performance, accuracy and efficiency. The RPA can do the tedious and repetitive tasks without error, and this frees up our valuable time to focus on much needed higher-level, intellectually demanding work.
