INTELLIGENT LOCKERS

Senior Airman Ricardo “Noah” Morales, an aircraft maintainer in the 461st Maintenance Group at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, came up with the idea for Intelligent Lockers. Like many of his fellow maintainers, he frequently worked shifts that made it difficult for him to get to the base post office to pick-up his packages. Even when they were able to get to the post-office, Airmen faced delays as their packages were manually sorted.

His idea was to install intelligent lockers, like those available in many stores, schools and apartment complexes, where packages could be dropped off without having to go through a time consuming sorting process and be available for pick-up 24/7. His idea was the winner at the 2021 AFIMSC Innovation Rodeo and was awarded $270,000. Morales worked this project, along with stakeholders from AFIMSC Ventures; the Air Force Postal Service Center; and Robins AFB, including force support squadron, contracting and civil engineer teams to make this idea a reality.

The first lockers opened at Robins AFB, in 2022.
