JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – Master Sgts. Brian Guillory and Sean Morgan learned about teamwork and uniting for a common purpose playing high school football in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Now the former LaGrange High School football teammates are on the same team again, this time with the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center's Expeditionary Support and Innovation Directorate.

“It’s definitely a coincidence to be reunited, even more so within AFIMSC,” said Guillory, a materiel management functional area manager with the directorate’s Expeditionary Support Division. “They definitely don’t hand these jobs out, and you have to qualify for them.”

Guillory and Morgan first crossed paths as sixth-graders in youth football. The two carried that bond with them to the LaGrange High School team. Guillory was a wide receiver and strong safety for the Gators, while Morgan was the team’s place-kicker.

“We were a pretty good team,” said Morgan, a cyberspace functional area manager. “Our sophomore year, we advanced to the state semifinals. We made the playoffs the next year, but we fell short our senior year. Still, we were pretty good.”

After graduating high school in 2001, Guillory and Morgan were good enough to play college football – Guillory at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and Morgan at McNeese State in Lake Charles. However, they left their respective schools after two years.

Both took divergent paths before joining the U.S. Air Force in 2006. Guillory, who said he enlisted on a whim, spent two years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, helping to defuse riots within the state’s prison system and eventually ascending to the rank of lieutenant.

Morgan, meanwhile, worked at an Outback Steakhouse and with his father as an auto mechanic. He was supposed to enlist in 2005, but Hurricanes Rita and Katrina delayed the process.

The two were briefly stationed together at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, in 2009 before reuniting at AFIMSC a few months ago. Both are expected to stay in their current assignments for the next three years.

“Here at AFIMSC, we work with a bunch of professionals,” Guillory said. “Sean and I haven’t been here long, so we lean on those who have been here a little bit longer.”

The fact that the two childhood friends are now working in close proximity with one another isn’t lost on Guillory.

“It makes it even sweeter working with someone I know from the same hometown,” Guillory said. “I definitely don’t take it for granted. I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m glad to get the opportunity to be playing for the same team again for AFIMSC and the Air Force. It definitely brings it home for me.”

Morgan echoed that sentiment.

“It’s definitely cool and I already knew somebody here; it’s just really cool,” Morgan said. “I knew he was in the Air Force, but to be put in the same exact unit a door away is a good feeling.”
