#IAMIMSC: Michael Braithwaite

Duty title and unit: Logistics Management Specialist, AFIMSC Detachment 8, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Primary duty responsibilities: I am the maintenance and logistics focal point on all new and change-of-mission basing and beddown requirements across multiple major commands. I lead and facilitate maintenance and logistics working groups during site survey and site activation task force team events to identify requirements, construction costs to meet mission needs, and develop action items and milestones for force structure basing plans to ensure successful mission completion.

What’s the best part of your job?
Establishing trusting relationships by effectively communicating with people enterprise wide and providing continuous support to our warfighters.

Why are you and your job important to the Air Force and AFMC?
Our team strives to be proactive and consistent to provide excellent evaluations. We analyze all maintenance and logistics beddown requirements and coordinate with our major command partners to ensure we provide leading-edge capabilities as we posture to meet the next generation of warfighting capabilities.

What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment?
I led a team comprised of personnel from the 355th Fighter Wing, the Joint Program Office and Air Combat Command through discussions to beddown the new EC-37B Aircraft to replace the legacy EC-130H Aircraft. I channeled discussions to ensure interim and permanent solutions were vetted to eliminate any mission gaps. We captured $17 million in refurbishment costs.

Any claims to fame?
I was part of the initial cadre to stand up the first operational F-22 unit and years later led the same unit to be recognized as the first 5th generation F-22 unit to deploy to a combat zone.

Do you follow any mantra?
Family first, family always.

Which AFIMSC value do you identify with the most and why?
Trust & Transparency. Honesty is the best policy regardless of the situation.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I am fully invested in the command’s efforts to end injustice, push toward racial equality and social justice. I believe this starts with leaders that are now in place to make a difference. I believe in action: we cannot have a just system where our leaders speak but their actions are not congruent with the message.
